CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION

We are closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as well as the information that is being updated regularly by the Ministry of Health.

 In addition:

  • SWET has increased the frequency of cleaning to sanitise all equipment, especially high-use areas like our sign-in iPad, door handles and equipment
  • Ensuring soap dispensers remain filled in toilets and ensuring hand sanitizer is available around the gym
  • Reminding members of the importance of good hygiene in the gym
  • We will also be keeping hi-5’s to a minimum, feel free to throw your neighbour some knuckles or a wink instead 😉

How our members can help:

  • SWET members and visitors are encouraged to help reduce the spread of illness through good personal hygiene. This includes frequent hand-washing during your visits and covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and maintaining your distance from others
  • Bring 2 towels, one for your face and one to sit on when using mats and machines
  • Wipe down equipment and mats when you are finished using them
  • We also kindly remind you to familiarise yourself with the latest guidance from the Ministry of Health (link below)
  • Please DO NOT visit the gym if you are sick
  • Not to attend the gym if you have been in mainland China, Iran, northern Italy or the Republic of Korea (excluding airport transit) in the past 14 days

HOUSEKEEPING RULES

  1. Please remember to try and book your classes at least 1 hour in advance and if you are unable to attend, please remember to cancel your class for free through your app. This allows anyone on the waitlist to join instead. Booking your classes helps our trainers to best prepare for their classes, particularly if you are injured and require modified movements.  2. Warming up is compulsory before any class or workout. We are here to keep you safe and strong and to avoid injury as much as possible.

    3. Stay hydrated – bring a water bottle to class.

    4. Bring 2 sweat towels, one for your face and one to sit on.

    5. Be conscious of your surroundings and peers working out in class, everyone in the gym is here to work respectfully around one another.

    6. Once done with your equipment (machines and mats especially) please use the spray bottles in the corners to wipe them down.

    7. Do not be pressured to lift a weight that you cannot handle. Safety is key and always ask a trainer for a different weight or piece of equipment if you feel you need it.

    8. Please use the chalk wisely, it’s not baby powder to sprinkle around everywhere!

    9. Under no circumstances are barbells allowed to be dropped with anything less than 10kgs on each side – especially the bare bar or smaller weighted plates.

    10. Once you have used gear, please put it away in the correct space.

    11. If you’re not sure, ask a trainer. We are always here to help 🙂

KIDS SAFETY AT SWET

  1. Please keep our little ones inside the gym at all times while in class, no running outside by themselves is permitted unless they are accompanied by a parent or caregiver supervising them.
    2. No swinging from or playing on any equipment unless instructed that it’s ok to do so
    3. Please try your hardest to stay in the waiting area while class is in session, we would hate for a piece of equipment to fall on your little one while our members are working out.

NEW TIMETABLE

This will be effective as of Monday 16 March 2020. Check out our timetable below for all the details and take note of the new class times.

FAREWELL TO IZAAC O’HARA

It was a sad time at SWET last week when we farewelled Izaac after a solid 5+ years with us. Izaac was SWET’s very first recruit. This legend played a massive part in our SWET journey during our transition from training out of carparks and playgrounds to training in the facility that is SWET today. He was a fiercely loyal colleague and an incredible trainer and we will be forever grateful for the amazing energy he consistently brought to SWET each week.

Of course, you can still keep in touch with him via Instagram, no doubt his next adventures will be nothing short of amazing and we look forward to seeing all the new magic he’s destined to create!

STAFF UPDATES

You may have spotted a few new faces in the gym over the past few weeks.
We’re so happy to officially introduce our 2 newest trainer recruits to SWET, Te Rua Munro and Rory McKeown. They have kindly shared a bit of their backgrounds with us which we will share with you now.
Ben Edusei, functional health, and wellness practitioner has also joined the SWET team and will be working upstairs part-time out of the consult room.
Welcome to the team boys we’re so stoked to have you all join our family.

We are also looking forward to having Arna Scott rejoin us again soon. Arna has been enjoying her time with her beautiful new daughter Billie.

Tash will be with us until 16 May 2020 at this stage, as you all know, pepi number 2 is on the way! Our SWET whanau is growing!

Kia ora koutou. I’m Te Rua and I am excited to be joining the SWET whānau. I am originally from Wairoa, Hawkes Bay but moved to Wellington 5 years ago.
After completing a Diploma in Exercise Prescription in 2016 at NZIS I moved on to study at Massey and am currently in my last year of completing a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise.

I love anything competitive and challenging so naturally, fitness has been a part of my life forever! I have worked with people ranging from athletes, youth, and the general population and am continuously looking to develop my skills through study and being involved in both professional and community projects on an ongoing basis.

For me, fitness is more than just working out. I get to dedicate my time and effort to helping others become fitter and stronger, physically and mentally which is what I strive for every time I’m coaching. I love creating a positive vibe in my classes and getting to know every person in the gym.

In terms of my own training, I’ve been doing CrossFit almost every day since 2016 and enjoy challenging myself as much as I do others.

SWET has an amazing team of experienced and dedicated coaches so I am stoked to be able to work alongside them and can’t wait to get started.

I’m Rory and I hail from the wonderful country of Ireland. I’m an experienced trainer with a long background in martial arts and in recent years turned to personal training to further my learning and understanding in the health and fitness world.

Most of my sporting career has been in professional football and mixed martial arts with over 10 years of experience in both fields. What I have drawn from this time, is the ability to add a little something different to my sessions and help my clients achieve their fitness goals with my own little spin on things. I have been passionate about fitness and sport my entire life and my approach has always been to work hard, but also have fun while doing it!

Proper movement and technique are very much at the top of my priorities list and I love to help all types of people when it comes to health and fitness. I have worked with professional sports people returning from injuries and also people completely fresh to fitness or their martial arts journey. I try to make my sessions as fun as possible and I love a good chat haha. I pride myself on being approachable and easy to talk to, and I promise to always lend a helping hand if needed.

I look forward to getting started with the SWET Family

Ben Edusei is a functional health and wellness practitioner based in Wellington who understands the importance of living a holistic lifestyle. Having suffered from gut and adrenal issues, he knows first-hand what it takes to overcome this struggle. His experience and passion for self-educating has always remained a top priority, which directly supports his desire to help as many people as possible. With a career ambition to educate others using his own life experiences as a guide. Allow him to guide you into the pursuit of healthiness.

8WC WRAP-UP

Today marked the end of our first 8-week challenge for 2020.

Over the past 8 weeks, Sam took the team through a running-based programme (3 extra sessions per week) involving basic compound movements to increase their strength and improve technique, running drills to assist with coordination, efficiency and endurance in the legs and can’t forget our weekly running challenges to test everything that had been taught during the week. We saw personal bests achieved in areas outside of people’s normal comfort zones and a new love for running and lifting. Tash also pushed our participants with weekly mini-challenges to keep them on their toes and provided a safe forum on our private Facebook page to keep the encouragement and banter going.  Dj was all over our SWET 8-week challenge app and provided good guidance to everyone on how to utilise this for the best results.
Overall, it was a very successful 8-week challenge and Dan McGruddy and Penny Dell walked away with our top male and female prizes.
Congratulations once again to all our participants and we look forward to bringing you our 2nd 8-week challenge on 29 June 2020. Keep an eye out on your inboxes and social media for reminders closer to the time.
